Despite producing one of the most improbable birdies of the entire year george Coetzee fell in the Open de France.
Coetzee let a two-shot advantage slide over the last six holes in Le Golf National to end the week in third spot, having made a charge up the fashion at the ninth.
The Southern Africans tee shot finished left of the fairway and just inches away from the hazard, leaving Coetzee having to remove sneakers and his socks to wade into the water to play his shot.
Coetzee was able to acquire a position in the water to produce a connection and send the ball up the fairway, but then missed the green to leave himself confronting a hard up and down to save par.
The European Tour winner had other ideas chipping in for the first of three birdies to put pressure.
