The venerable Resorts has been the primary casino.
After then-New Jersey Gov. Brendan Byrne cut the grand opening ribbon Resorts at May 1978, therefore began a rollercoaster of casino/resort openings, closings, re-openings, refurbishments up and down the Boardwalk.
Resorts is still going strong in Atlantic City’s heart, and they welcomed their new amenity, the DraftKings Sportsbook, final November 2018.
DraftKings originally was focused on daily fantasy sport. But along with its cohort along with challenger, FanDuel, it is a relative newcomer into the legal sports. DraftKings has held its own.
And they also make a solid showing in the front in concert with Resorts.
I have been reviewing every NJ retail sportsbook ahead of the NFL season, and now I am looking in DraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts in Atlantic City.
Address: 1133 Boardwalk, Atlantic City
Resorts is at the heart of Atlantic City’s”Boardwalk Strip.”
The DraftKings location is not hard to discover, just inside the boardwalk entry. Resorts provides amenities such as Margaritaville bar, a spa, and club and dining choices as well as all the casino action.
Like many Atlantic City casinos, even if you are not a hotel guest or a devotion cardholder, you will be hit with a $20 charge for. Not perfect, but it is the price of”doing business” in AC.
While the DraftKings distance feels little, it’s feet and includes a capacity of nearly 400. The inside d??cor and colour scheme are embellished in”DK colours” of green and black. The branding is delicate but on stage with neon”kings crowns” located throughout the space.
Other than the extravagant d??cor are the amounts of kiosks adjacent to the sports bar and situated at the entrance.
All told, you can find 18 self-serve terminals at the area, rivaling only FanDuel in the Meadowlands (wait, are these daily-fantasy-turned-sportsbook operators onto something?) For kiosks at NJ’s number sportsbooks.
The self-serve kiosks counter the live teller area, which can be tucked into a corner. It’s a space with capacity for as many as five tellers.
Even though the reported dimensions (5,000 square feet) and capability (396) is large, the book feels much smaller and cozier. With low ceilings and smaller format video displays, it does have a similar”Fan Cave” feel like, say, the Golden Nugget book.
Againnot a bad thing, even as DK has done an outstanding job.
The Resorts sportsbook has a rectangular shape from live teller area, the other in the rear of the novel that holds four VIP areas: 1 and its principal sportsbook place with just two offshoots. The primary viewing area features four main large screens which aren’t”giant” by any means but fit the space allotted.
Underneath the four video displays are 10 smaller screens for game action. A ticker screen is scrolling updates and the latest scores and an eye-catching digital odds and data wall .
DraftKings'”fire marshal” capacity of 396 belies the truth that there’s somewhat limited seats in the main sportsbook area. There are 40 theater chairs anchoring the primary viewing area with 15 more seats. As a service partition will obscure a few of the displays for the ones that are still sitting behind 31,, there’s a tiny design flaw in this principal area.
The bar area has chairs. That’s a total of 70 seats, not counting the space in the four VIP areas that may seat up to 48 more.
You will find five live gambling windows adjacent to the bar.
While my trip was not in a”summit” period, one could visualize some audience issues at busier times, together along with all people wedged into the corner of this space.
RATING: 3.5 stars
DraftKings rips it. What is even better is that the self-serve machines are open and accessible 24 hours each day. Nicely done, DK.
RATING: 5 stars
The teller minimum is consistent with Hill NJ retail sportsbook locations, 5. This higher”live-teller” minimal is offset by the user-friendly kiosks, which are at a reduced $1 minimum.
RATING: 4 stars
One is not overwhelmed with displays in the Resorts book. The TV screens are serviceable, without a”wow” impact.
There are four big displays in the main viewing area and more in the VIP area. All the screens in the viewing area and adjoining to the pub are a smaller format.
Not the ideal situation for watching NFL Sunday in actions.
RATING: 3 stars
The”non-VIP” seating capacity is roughly 70. Yes, even the 40 theatre-style seats in the viewing area are outstanding; I wish there were more.
The 15-seat back rail does include power outlets (a nice touch). The VIP areas are recorded to maintain up to 12 people (12 would be the absolute maximum ) and features plush leather sofas and low tables. It feels”VIP-ish,” as the four regions have been consecutively adjoined (not private) with a single big screen that can be set to whatever game you wish to watch.
RATING: 3.5 stars
The day-to-day seating access is”first-come, first-serve,” with the VIP areas available to be reserved ahead of time.
RATING: 4 stars
As with AC sportsbook places, the casino was built well before the introduction of this sportsbook. While a few other books have limited to no food options (i.e., depart the novel to locate the food court), DraftKings Sportsbook introduces some sound choices if you decide to never leave your seat or the sportsbook itself.
Along with this huge bar in the publication, there are drinks available via table service and”Happy Hour” discounted beverage pricing on Sunday-Thursday in 2-7 p.m.
The food menu is brief, but solid featuring some sports pub food including chicken wings, hot dogs and hamburgers but also a few other unique offerings featuring quesadillas, chicken parm, and sushi rolls.
RATING: 4.5 stars
On my visit that is off-peak, you will find four DraftKings staff and all were explain bets customer focused to answer questions, or instruct how to use the self-betting kiosks.
DK has also nailed the lines newspaper screen. A big wall is opposite the bar that displays a myriad of screens and lines. Beneath these displays is a row of paper sheets. Nicely done, DK!
RATING: 5 stars
Resorts Casino is in the heart of the Atlantic City Boardwalk. This prime location is reflected in the pricing of 20. Yecch!
RATING: 2 stars
As highlighted before, Resorts has a multitude of alternatives under its roof as well for all those”non-sports betting” frame of mind that you may happen to be in, there is something for everybody.
The place in the heart of the Boardwalk makes it simple for you to journey up or down the boardwalk to find entertainment choices as stated.
RATING: 4.5 stars
As a part of each sportsbook trip, I am placing a football-related wager for the forthcoming 2019 year old.
Using its 18 kiosks it was only reasonable I made this bet at one of their terminals. With futures and props, the DraftKings kiosks are filled in addition to the bet minimums of 1 which you don’t watch at the book on display.
After studying some NFL possible bets round”NFL team to acquire the fewest matches” and then”NFL defensive rookie of the year,” I took a shot at”Last NFL team to be undefeated in the 2019-20 season”
Fantastic luck and go get’em, New Orleans Saints:
The Resorts sportsbook provides some amenities that aren’t available at other Atlantic City sportsbooks. DraftKings scores solid marks in the regions of ordering reserved seats, along with millions of accessible self-serve kiosks.
The yells on DraftKings at Resorts stem from its allotted space. The TV screens are on the side in relation along with the seating capacity is on the low side.
One assumes that DraftKings would do things differently When given a free rein to look a space from scratch, but they must perform the best with all the space available.
So the negatives are outweighed by the advantages. Combined with a favorable customer-service approach and dedication, it will put the DraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts about the”must-consider” list for a trip during the upcoming college and NFL seasons.
